Susan Brunson is a calligrapher who lives and works in Evans, Georgia. She believes in “practical calligraphy” and uses it on envelopes, paper crafts and wall art. She also spends her days painting, camping and chasing after her grandchildren.
As a young person, Susan learned to write italic and Celtic letterforms with a broad pen by studying the writings and works of Margaret Shepherd. Much later in life, Susan began learning copperplate calligraphy. Writing with a pointed pen was challenging in the beginning, but she persevered in her practice and also took workshops both in person and online from master calligraphers.
She has been a member of IAMPETH since 2018 and recommends them as the primary resource for anyone studying this beautiful art form. As a lifelong learner, she continues to study and practice regularly. She believes the best way to improve is by using calligraphy in a practical way.
